Guest Post and Giveaway: Suzy Turner

I've always considered myself to be an ambitious person. Apparently it's a trait most Capricorns have. Am I a true Capricorn? Well, I'm also very down to earth, practical and helpful, so I guess so. But back to the ambition bit. Ever since I started on this road of writing novels, I've always thought, 'one day I'll be up there walking the red carpet, accepting an Oscar for best original screenplay, rubbing shoulders with JK...'

Yeah, I know what you're thinking, that's what all authors think... isn't it? Whatever... I know I'll be successful, so there!

Seriously though, I first began writing fiction about 15 years ago when I penned my very first chick lit novel. It was a simple book entitled Molly that was rejected too many times by literary agents than I care to remember. I did, however, get some really good comments about it. One agent even likened it to Bridget Jones. Woo Hoo... so why didn't she pick it up? Because Bridget Jones was being done to death or something like that.

But then I got married and settled down, got a new job and Molly was put in a drawer somewhere and forgotten about. And then, in 2009 when I was on holiday in western Canada, the cogs of my brain started to go into overdrive and I decided it was time to start writing again. That place was so incredibly beautiful that it inspired me to write a YA series called The Raven Saga (this also coincided with redundancy from my job as a magazine editor).

I penned the first book, Raven, shortly after returning. I tried to go the traditional route for a while, but got so tired of receiving the same old rejection letter that I began to feel a bit down. And then, something remarkable happened. I was introduced to Amazon KDP and Smashwords. I was utterly amazed at the possibilities that lay before me. I could self publish!

So I duly did that and waited to become a millionaire. Of course this didn't happen (but I haven't given up hope yet!), but sales very gradually began to climb, the reviews started to come in and people suddenly knew my name. It was working... and on top of that, I started getting mail from readers who had read my books and loved them. I've since made the first book free and sales for the rest have gone through the roof!

I recently started a brand new series, also for young adults, called The Morgan Sisters. Currently, there is a free novella (Daisy Madigan's Paradise) and a full length novel (The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw). You should see the reviews I've been getting! Woop Woop! One reviewer even said this could be the next Harry Potter. Well, I did tell you, right?

     About the Author
I love writing about enchanted road trips, shadow worlds, and alien romance while eating lots of popcorn. I live with my hubby and Oso, our aussie shepherd, in our tree house on the central California coast. After twenty-plus years as a freelance graphic designer/animator with clients including E! Entertainment Television and The Los Angeles Times, I crossed over into the world of publishing non-fiction and followed my heart to the world of fiction.

I'm the author of the Shadow Series & the Starjump Series. I'm really excited about Shadow Slayer because Roxie is one year older and finds fitting in at high school nothing compared to saving the world from the shadow onslaught. Transfer Student (Starjump Series #1) is an intergalactic tale of beauty and the geek. This book is near and dear to me because it explores the greatest mystery in the galaxy––what do boys think about girls? And, vice-versa. Ashley & Rhoe solve this mystery by swapping lives. I'm the author of a couple stand-alone novels too. Winnemucca, a small-town fairy tale is inspired by my life-long love of a little-known town and my equal love of enchanted teenage road trips. I love this book because Ginny awakens to her own intuition and learns to trust her gut. The Seven Caves & Other Spine-Tingling Short Stories is a compilation of my most popular ghost stories.

     Angel Creek Series
Book #1: ReVamped. Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

Book #2: ReAwakened. Becoming a vampire guardian was Dawn Fairchild’s ticket out of the Scarlet House. Fresh off a successful mission, life in Angel Creek should have been great. But when her sort-of-maybe-boyfriend, Sebastian, disappears on a quest to help a beautiful vampire from his past, Dawn finds herself amidst a web of danger, lies, and deceit.

Joining forces with Razor, an enigmatic rebel lacking both a verbal and a physical filter, and her band of Misfits—Brooke, Sophie, Hunter, and Seth—Dawn is thrust into a race against the clock to solve the mystery surrounding brutal Born kidnappings and come to terms with the sudden discovery of her own unique powers. With time ticking away and Born vampires’ lives in jeopardy, it quickly becomes evident that someone—or something—desperately wants Dawn and is willing to shed any amount of blood to get her.

Dawn has only one chance to face her demons and overcome all obstacles standing in her way as she embarks on the biggest mission of her life—one that threatens a deadly outcome for all involved.

Indie Month Info for Authors/Bloggers

Hey hey! Thanks soo much for coming by my blog here and reading up on Indie Author Month (IAM). Last year i did IAM on my other blog LovelyLit, but that blog was causes me a lilttle problem... you see, it was on a different acct. So i was constantly having to sign in and out between my email/google + and my blog. It was a pain, so i made a new blog here! With this new blog comes a much simplier approach to blogging on my part. I plan to write a full post on that later, but for now, let me better explain IAM.

I created IAM last year because (1) i totally love indie books and because (2) its soo hard for indie authors to reach there audience sometimes! Not to mention that some people have a preconceived notion that Indie books arent good enough or aren't as good as mainstream books. I think this is totally wrong. No offence to publishing houses but they look at books/publishing as making money. Indie authorship is all about a love for writing and creating. Sharing stories without monetary pressure truly inspires me to read Indie books.

When considering Indie books though, you have to consider all the crazy loads of work that must go into it. Not only does the author have to actually write the words, they also have to edit & design the book, figure out the logistics of self-publishing and do all of their own prompting. Just simply having an idea for the story is just the start! That's why i love Indie Authors, they work hard! That's why i want to help them promote themselves with IAM as well as year-around support on my blog here!

So now down to business!! Things to expect from IAM include (but are not limited to) Author of the Day, Reviews, Cover Reveals, Guests Posts, Book Releases, Google+ Hangouts, Giveaways, Book Excerpts, Character Profiles, Games, etc. Any Indie Author or blogger who would like to participate in IAM is greatly appreciated! The more people involved the more EPIC this year will be!

Bloggers: For bloggers, any sort of promotion would be great: tweets, pins, +1, likes, posts, videos, etc.  I also would like Author Outreach. A lot of authors don't even know about IAM...yet. Also, if you've reviewed one of the featured books or want to, let me know so i can link to it. Make a comment below with: Your Name, Your Blog Name, URL, Twitter/Email and let me know if you want to do Promotion, Author Outreach, Reviewing

Authors: For authors, just fill out the signup form below with your choices. You can invite your friend authors as well. On days when you are featured on the blog, you could share the posts on your social sites.

I will be making a database of all the bloggers and Authors that help out. In addition, there will be a giveaway at the end of the month for readers/bloggers!
