A lot of them. Loving to read is what inspired me to write. When I finally started to try to write seriously, it was hard to "find time" because I read so much! However, Nora Roberts' (everything of hers that I could get my hands on at the tender age of thirteen) was what made me want to write romance.
2. First book you ever remember reading?
The first book that I read on my own (and fell in love with) was GWINNA by Barbara Helen Berger. Before then, my favorite books had all been read to me by my parents (thank you mom and dad!). One of my friends brought the book to share with the other girls for "silent reading time." I picked it up and was immediately enchanted...so enchanted, in fact, that I wanted to keep the book and got jealous when one of my other friends started reading it! Luckily, my parents bought me the book for Christmas, and I still have it. I reread it not too long ago, and it was just as good as I remembered.
3. How do you pick your character's names?
The names of the angels, demons and devils (like Camael, Azazel, and Forneus) in my "fallen angels series" all come from Christian mythology. Kai was taken from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale "The Snow Queen," which is one of the stories that inspired me to write the books. Devi’s name is...well, it is significant, but I don’t want to say why because it is a big spoiler for the second book, BELOVED PURGATORY.
4. Name an excellent indie book that you think needs more recognition.
Just reading this question overwhelms me, because there are simply too many good indie books. HEART ON A CHAIN by Cindy C. Bennett was one of the first indie books I read that resonated with me. I think that Rachel Carr’s FORGOTTEN SELF has one of the most authentic teenage voices I’ve read in a YA book. BRIDGER by Megan Curd is a recent favorite, and I just finished Fisher Amelie’s CALLUM & HARPER, and adored it. I don’t think that Tammy Blackwell's DESTINY BINDS or Susan Ee's ANGELFALL can get enough recognition. The next book in my TBR pile is OPEN MINDS by Susan Kaye Quinn, which I've heard wonderful things about. So, those books + at least fifty more :)
5. Share some quotes you love! Either from your book or someone else's!
I love dark and sexy quotes, especially when they're funny. One of my favorites comes from Tess Oliver's CAMILLE: “Hell won't be so bad, you know. After all, I'll be there to keep you company.”
I love THE PRINCESS BRIDE. The movie is great, and the book is even better. I think this short line shows how fun and funny the book is: "Have fun storming the castle!"
My favorite quote from my new release, BELOVED PURGATORY, is from the scene where the hero and heroine are walking the hero's cat, Princess, in downtown Portland. "Walking Princess was kind of like being in a celebrity’s entourage. The crowd parted. The people gawked. The celebrity in question randomly stopped to lick herself."
