Title: ReVamped
Series: Book #1 of Angel Creek
Author: Ada Adams
Genre: YA (Paranormal: Vampires & Werewolves)

Synopsis. A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

ReVamed: A Rebirth

The story of how ReVamped came to be is a “backwards” one compared to the birth of many other novels. Most of the time, books are first written, and only then are some optioned for shows and films. ReVamped, on the other hand, was born as a script for an action-comedy TV/Web series. After getting a sudden idea about a story that centered around a group of misfit vampires trying to find their place in a world full of strong, dazzling and gorgeous vamps (and the girl responsible for training them), I was inspired to write the entire first draft of the pilot script in one day.

Once the pilot script* revisions, treatment and episode outlines were completed, the show materials underwent a few consultations with directors and producers. During that process, I came to the realization that, due to the direction in which I wanted the story to go in, ReVamped The Show could not be rushed until I was certain that it would receive the highest production value possible. The script sat on my computer for a while as my schedule quickly filled up with other projects. However, the story and its characters would just not leave me alone! I was often up until the early hours of the morning, thinking about Dawn, Sebastian and the gang; my head bursting with new ideas and exciting plot development. I finally gave in and sat down at my computer to write it all out. This time, in book form, of course!

While I created ReVamped for the Young Adult Paranormal-loving audience, I also always knew that I didn’t want it to be too fantastical. Yes, vampires are fantastical (and fantastic, if you ask me!), but I wanted to write a book in which the characters still had personality and could stand as real “people/teens” even after you took away their “vampiric powers”.

There was a challenge in writing a novel using an already-created TV show script as a guideline. When someone does or says something in a sarcastic manner on a TV Show, it is interpreted a lot differently than when a character does or says something sarcastic in a book. Since my script was written in a very satirical manner, I had to do many changes to my writing and ideas in order to make ReVamped appealing to a book-reading audience. Scriptwriting and “bookwriting” are not one and the same—at all! I also knew that, while I did love my funny, misfit vamps and all the butt-kicking action Dawn got herself into, I wanted the book to focus on the more romantic and dramatic aspect of the story as well. I toned down the satire and comedy in order to let the plot and the characters shine through on their own.

The world of ReVamped, Angel Creek, Dawn and the rest of the gang took over my life while I was writing. I grew to care for them deeply and cannot wait to develop their stories even further. I hope you enjoy(ed) reading the book just as much as I enjoyed writing it! Over the next few months, I will do my best to post some fun background information about the story and the characters and address any questions/prompts readers of ReVamped have. Feel free to make a suggestion on the Q&A Page or email info@revampedbook.com.

*The pilot script corresponded to roughly the first two chapters of the book.
